MRHS students will feature local farmers on March 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (Storm date March 7) The event will give parents and students an opportunity to learn about farms, plant seeds to take away and learn how to make nutritious and delicious food using local ingredients. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening.
Montague Regional High School has been participating in a pilot project which aims to prepare healthy, local school meals at schools with kitchen facilities and deliver them to satellite schools daily. A non-profit organization will hire chefs and coordinate preparation of meals and collaborate with existing program volunteers to increase food quality and make the delivery of school food programs easier for schools.
Student involvement in menu development and food preparation will be explored, and healthy eating will continue to be taught as part of the curriculum. Following the pilots, the project will be expanded to include other schools across the province.
